The handicraft business organ builder Merten

We are specialized in new building and restoration of organs - a handicraft business with traditon. Over the years, a lot of pipe organs lost their quality in tonation. For the restoration of antique organs you need more than the handcraft of an organ builder. Some materials which are no longer available have to be replaced by new elements to get a restoration inline with accepted conservation practice. And you have to realize the only intention an organ has:

let the sound swing in the hearts of the audience.

The aim for restoration is to conserve the old substance and treat the organ as gentle as possible. At first, every part such as windchest or tracker have to be removed. We clean and check these parts in our new spacious factory. Working parts as the leather parts of valves or the bellows have to be renewed and reconstructed according to historical examples. (As in former times, we use bone-glue for connecting the parts).
