An organ for the new Hoffnungskirche in Leverkusen-Rheindorf

Nowadays, the construction of a new organ is very rare, but the construction of a new church is nearly exotic. The protestant parish Leverkusen-Rheindorf was lucky in finding someone who bought tht piece of lan with their interim Paul-Gerhardt_kirch. So they were able to plan a nuw community hall with church and outbuildings. Of course their plans included a new organ as well. But – what should the organ look like, how big should it be, and – what ist the price for a new organ?

The discussions were as follows:

1. Sell the Strutz organ of the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche
2. Use of the positive organ as an interim solution in the new church
3. The buy of a new organ. (if ecessary a second-hand organ )
4. Financial framework: max. 60.000 €

From my point of view, there were still some other questions:

1. How much could the parish earn for the Strutz organ (15.000 to 30.000 €?)
2. Is it possible to find a connoisseur for the positive organ who will pay 3000 to 5000 €?
3. How much costs a new organ and how big is the expenditure to adapt this organ to the new church (according to architecture, technique and intonation?)
4. Concerning all these points: is it possible to get a new organ for this amount?

During several discussions with the cantor, Mrs. Prößdorf, the architect Mr. Zelck and Mr. Köpsell as construction supervisor we achieved the following solutions:

- The parish does not sell the Strutz organ
- The positive organ will be the “interim organ”
- We do not built a new organ, but reuse all those parts of the Strutz organ which will fit in the new one.
- We clearly define the budget for the new organ

We could reuse the following parts:

Flute action?
Pedal board
Coral bank
Blowing machine

We had to furnish the following parts:

Organ case
Podium with lifting cart
Windchest for both manuals
Windchest for the edal

Wind equipment
Assembly and intonation
Requires Flash Player 9
