Organ „Ladegast" in the protestantic church
Fröndenberg - Frömern

1878 the protestantic church got a new organ, built by the saxon organ-builder Friedrich Ladegast. He was born in Hochhermsdorf in 1818 and first learned from his brother Christlieb. Afterwards he worked in famous facilities in Borna, Leipzig and Dessau. In Dessau he became familiar with the saxon baroque-stye organs of G. Silbermann. Later he studied in France and learned in the facilities of the Silbermann successor Wetzel.

The construction of the organ for the dome in Merseburg in 1855, which was the biggest organ in Germany in this time, was regarded by experts to be the beginning of the high romantic era in construction of organs in Germany. Ladegast built organs until 1898, when handed his facility to his son.
The focus of the restoration of the organ in Frömern was the elimination of mould on the whole organ. This infection was on every wooden or leather part.

Our work can be documentated by the headwords of our quotation:

  1. Stock-check (pipe scale, height o the cut-up) has been made. These points should be checked and corrected during the cleaning.
  2. The turbo-blower of Faust of 1912 should be replaced by a low speed motor. (Aug. Laukhuff). A compatible protecting box for the motor should be built. The electrical connections are made by the building contractor. (Please note the the bellows have to be delivered with a dismounted suction duct because of the door to the bellow room).
  3. In my opinion the elimination of the mould in connection with a cleaning of the complete organ is a main focus of the restoration. The following operations have to be made:
    1. demounting of the whole pipework, the console and stop action mechanism, toeboard with rack, slider beds and charging valves.
    2. Cleaning of the demounted parts by dedusting and wiping of the hardened dust and mould with a damp cloth.
    3. The wooden parts which are not demounted should be cleaned as mentioned above.
    4. For prevention, I advise to wipe all wooden parts with lacquer oil.
  4. After the re-assembling of the trackers we will adjust them. The lead trackers in the console have to be assured so that they cannot slide.
  5. After opening and cleaning of the windchests they have to be checked whether the have split or an abrasion of wood.
  6. After cleaning the complete wind installation has to be checked. The wind joltinesse of the 2. manual is caused by a minor key mobility and a therefore associated light lift of valves. The additional integrated concussion bellows did not achieve the desired amelioration. Whether these non-original parts can be remoted has to be discussed with specialists. At the suggestion of the specialists, we will integrate a conversion for the rolling valce-inductor. I am convinced that we will get more insights when we check the organ as mentioned above. I can imagine to supply the pedal work by activating bellow box 1 by integrating an additional conductor with wind (There is a separate channel from bellow box 1 to the pedal.
  7. The leather topping at the metal angles should be renewed in general.
  8. A new wiring of the electrical operation and control elements can already be reached by the building contractor after demounting the organ
  9. All plug closings and plug bars will be checked concerning functionality and closeness.
  10. When the organ is dismounted completely, the finery coating at the westwall should be corrected by the buildung contractor.
  11. In general, all leather gaskets at the heads of the metal pipes have to be renewed and newly fitted.
  12. The leather gaskets at the ripping wooden pipes peel off. We will remove them and slice the rips in such way that the vents can be close be inglueing wooden parts.
  13. The painting of the swell box can be made in agreement with us.
  14. The big pipe of flute 4‘ in the swell shall be stabilised by integrate a raster which is reversible and built according to historical convention.
  15. We control the whole body of the organ after cleaning, adjusting of the fittings, fastening the loose rotators and solid footing
  16. Before re-assembling of the cleaned keyboard the whole console will be cleaned and refreshed. As a matter of course the labels of the easel will be replaced.
  17. As mentioned by Mr. Lange, in the meantime the tower room has been cleaned in internal activity and the wooden work was checked for infestation of vermins - with negative findings. If we find vermins we will treat it and shut the holes made by the worms.
  18. Beside the cabeling of the electrical control elements we want to mount cold-lights in the organ body. This will take place in relation to our work.
  19. At the moment, one of the chambers of the 3 box bellows is fitted with motor wind, which regulates the pressure of the wind. The two other chambers have to be renewed, checked whether there are vermins and if so treated as mentioned in point 17. Afterwards this mechanical possibility to generate wind will be adjusted.
  20. After cleaning and renewing of the whole pipe work, the stop action mechanism, wind chest and wind supply, we will test the function of the turn on pulse. Afterwards the pipes will be integrated register per register and voiced based on the melodious substance and then voiced in general. Before beginning of the work the intonation and the tone pitch will be checked and documentated with experts.
  21. At last the client will do the acceptance test supported by experts.
