The organ in St. Maria Empfängnis
in Solingen-Merscheid Germany
Oh these Englishmen!
This casually spoken sentence was spoken a lot of times in summer
and autumn 2008. But let us start at the beginning.
In the sixties my home parish Merscheid bought a second-hand organ.
I watched the installation as often as I could and I suppose that
my profession would not be as it is without having watched this
event.
In autumn 2008, the organ could no longer be played and had to be
replaced. The specialist for organs of the archbishopric in
Cologne, Mr. Eckhard Isenberg, favored the buy of a second-hand
organ as best solution. Especially the buy of the „Conacher
Orgel“, with its romantic disposition, the gravity of the
base sounds, the light lyric register in the swell-box and the
brilliance of the reed stop would not only be an enrichment for the
parish, but for the whole organ scenery in Germany
This were a few notes from the report of Mr. Isenberg of August
2007.
In summer 2008, the merchant Andreas Ladach (Wuppertal) delivered
the Conacher organ from Liverpool in all its several parts. We
looked at photos to examine, renovate and complete the several
parts of the organ. During this time, we often heard the above
mentioned sentence.
At the beginning of November 2008, the instrument was brought to
Solingen and inaugurated December 14, 2008 (6 weeks after its
installation)
